Austria ready to make up for lost time

Das Team return to the global stage after a 28-year hiatus, looking to progress through a group which includes champions Argentina.

After a 28-year absence, Austria will return to the top table of international football at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Coached by former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick, Das Team topped their qualifying group to ensure an eighth appearance at a tournament they placed third in back in 1954.

On their last World Cup outing in 1998, Austria failed to get out of the group stage.

But they will be targeting at least the Round of 16 in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., even though they have been drawn against champions Argentina in Group J, along with Algeria and debutants Jordan.
