A Kylian Mbappe double propelled France to a 2-1 win over Denmark and a place in the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Cristian Eriksen and Co must beat Australia in their final Group D game to have a chance of going through.

Mbappe came alive in the second half, producing one breathtaking run, forcing Kasper Schmeichel into a smart save, and then beating him after playing a one-two with Theo Hernandez, who started due to his brother Lucas being ruled out of the tournament.

France’s lead lasted minutes. An Eriksen corner took a slight but significant deflection, and Andreas Christensen headed it home.

A point apiece looked on the cards, but Mbappe had other ideas and nicked it for Les Bleus on 86 minutes.

    Key moment
Time was running out when Antoine Griezmann whipped a dangerous cross into the back post. Mbappe, showcasing his desire, got to the ball and bundled it home with his thigh.

    The state
Mbappe moved on to 30 goals in 60 internationals and into joint-eighth on France’s list of all-time leading marksmen.
