The match

A fascinating battle awaits as Ecuador and Germany go head-to-head in New York New Jersey. The match will bring the teams’ Group E campaigns to a close. A late 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their opener followed by a frustrating 0-0 draw against Curacao sees the South Americans still trying to find their first goal at these finals. Their Round of 32 hopes are still alive, but it will be a tall task against a Germany team that roared past Curacao 7-1 before edging Côte d’Ivoire 2-1. The Germans have already clinched first place in the group, while Ecuador require victory and other scenarios to play out.

As winners of the section, Germany will take on a third-placed side from Group A, B, C, D or F in Boston in the Round of 32. The Group E runners-up, meanwhile, will face the second-placed team from Group I in Dallas. If the third-placed side in the group qualify as one of the eight best, their first knockout fixture will be against the winners of Group A, B, D, G, K or L.
